Meet Our Team
All our dentists adhere to the rules governing the profession under strict guidance from the General Dental Council (GDC) "Standards for Dental Professionals".
A warm welcome by the principal dentist.
Clinic director, Principal dentist (dental implants)
GDC No. 77637
My professional career has resulted from a long held passion for the study of dentistry and especially cosmetic enhancement work. Having graduated from Glasgow University with degrees in anatomy (1998) and dental surgery (2000), I attained membership to the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh in 2004. In 2009 I was awarded entry to Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow without examination.
Currently working in cosmetic and implant reconstructive dentistry, I am based at Philip Friel Advanced Dentistry, a private referral clinic in Glasgow’s west end. I also carry out implant work at a clinic in Edinburgh. In both clinics, I have the support of a full team of dentists and hygienists with whom I work in conjunction.
I have a particular interest in dental implantology, including bone grafting, immediate implant placement and loading together with soft tissue surgery. The use of our in house CBCT scanner allows treatments such as this to be planned and carried out as accurately as possible.
There is no specialism in the field of dental implants - therefore a dentist can’t be called a specialist in dental implants.
Our clinic has a particular focus on dental implants and I have completed years of focused implant training and ongoing personal development in the area to ensure I can offer the best possible standard of patient treatment and care.
My strong commitment to continued education means I travel extensively to train with and learn from globally recognised pioneers and experts of advanced cosmetic and implant techniques. Throughout my year I get involved in implant mentoring and I lecture and co-ordinates courses on the placement and restoration of dental implants. I also undertake studies into bone regeneration, which is a key part of the implant process.
We are pleased that the name we selected for our clinic - Philip Friel Advanced Dentistry at Hyndland Dental Clinic - was approved by the General Dental Council.
I have been actively involved with the Association of Dental Implantology (ADI) UK since around 2005 when I was elected at that stage as the Scottish committee member. Following this I have become more involved with the ADI having previously held the post of secretary / treasurer and currently holding the office of president elect of the association. My term of presidency runs from November 2013.
I am a member of a number of key professional organisations including the British and American Academies of Cosmetic Dentistry, the ADI, International Team for Implantology (ITI), The PEERS group, Academy of Osseointegration(USA). I am a mentor for the Association of Dental Implantology.

Elizabeth is a highly skilled clinician with 30 years’ experience in general dental practice. She has retained an enthusiasm for dentistry throughout those years and has an easy going but professional approach to patient care. Elizabeth has a holistic approach to healthcare which blends with her overall approach to caring for her patients, not just their mouths.
She graduated from Glasgow University in 1986 and after entering general practice, had the privileged experience of providing dental care for the same group of patients for over 25 years.
Elizabeth enjoys all aspects of dentistry, from basic care to advanced techniques and gets particular satisfaction helping apprehensive patients overcome their fear of dental treatment.
Regularly attending the latest courses, Elizabeth keeps her knowledge of the latest cosmetic techniques up-to-date and has a special interest in crown and bridgework as well as the latest minimum invasive adhesive techniques, retaining the natural dentition where possible.
She is enthusiastic about non-invasive techniques like tooth whitening to enhance a natural but stunning smile, and is knowledgeable about the latest, evidence based whitening techniques.
Over the years Elizabeth has found that some patients want to do all they can to save an unhealthy tooth and has become highly skilled in Endodontics - saving a tooth by carrying out the process of root canal treatment. She is a member of the British Endodontic Society, to further her knowledge in the most successful techniques in endodontics.
Observing changes in her patients’ dentition and appearance over the years has led to Elizabeth developing a special interest in tooth wear, clenching and grinding habits and the accompanying aesthetic changes as well as functional problems that these habits bring. Worn teeth lead to a reduction in the height or “vertical dimension” of the face. Restoring the back teeth properly – to the correct facial height – can have a wonderful cosmetically enhancing effect – often described as a “non-surgical facelift”. This can be combined with tooth whitening, porcelain crowns and veneers on the anterior teeth – a complete makeover.
Elizabeth is also a Member of the Joint Dental Faculties of the Royal College of Surgeons, England (MJDF) and the Faculty of Dental Surgery (MFDS) at the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons, Glasgow.
Elizabeth loves the wider profession of dentistry and is particularly keen to encourage a high level of professional integrity. Thus she has a position of Dental Practice Inspector for NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde and represents General Dental Practitioners on local Clinical Governance groups.

I graduated from Glasgow University in 1999, and passed the diploma for the Membership of the Faculty of Dental Surgery, with the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, in 2001.
Since graduation, I have worked in both NHS and private practice, and also within Glasgow Dental Hospital. Early in my career, I worked full time in the oral surgery department, and the restorative dentistry departments in the dental hospital. I continue to work in the dental hospital on a part time basis, and I am involved with the teaching of the undergraduate students in the restorative dentistry department; a role I have held for over 13 years.
I enjoy all aspects of dentistry very much, but I have a special interest in cosmetic dentistry and implant dentistry. I attained full membership status with the British Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, due to my strong commitment to attending many hours of courses every year relelated to this particular aspect of dentistry.
I have recently completed and graduated from a 2 year diploma in implant dentistry with the Royal College of Surgeons of London, and I have been involved with the surgical placements of dental implants and their restoration for over 8 years, and as such, am the first female Scottish dentist to pass the exam and be awarded the diploma from the RCS England.
I offer short-term cosmetically focused orthodontic treatment using both fixed and removable appliances, with the “Quick Straight Teeth” system, and also “Six Month Smiles”.
I am a member of the Royal College of surgeons of Edinburgh, the Association of Dental Implantology, The British Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry and the Faculty of General Dental Practitioners, Royal College of Surgeons of England.

I graduated in 1984 from The Edinburgh Dental Hospital. In the last quarter of a century I have made a point of experiencing all aspects of dental hygiene and have worked in a range of practices. My objective is to encourage the highest standard of personal dental hygiene, particularly in children.
I love my work, however, I understand that many of my clients do not want to be 'at the dentist' A very important part of my role, therefore, is to make clients feel relaxed and comfortable, and if possible, enjoy the experience.
Because of my passion for dental hygiene, I spent some time in Peru on the Amazon Hope, a purpose built boat equipped with medical and dental surgeries. On behalf of the Vine Trust Charity we provided a high standard of medical and dental care to remote communities on the Amazon River. We do not know how lucky we are. I have practised for more than 25 years in the dental profession, however, becoming part of the Philip Friel team is the most stimulating and demanding experience of my career. There cannot be a better objective than to strive for excellence. That is what Philip Friel is doing, and that is what I am doing also.

Since gaining the Diploma in Dental Hygiene from Glasgow Dental Hospital and School (accreditation thought the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh) in 2001 I spent time working within the Oral Cancer ward at Guys hospital and as a staff hygienist at the Eastman Dental Institute, both in London - both of which were certainly an eye opener for a newly qualified hygienist! It did serve to give me experience in areas of dentistry not everyone gets an opportunity to be involved in. I have also spent 11 years working within a specialist periodontal referral practice based in Glasgow dealing with more complex gum problems referred to us from other dental practice. I also saw extremely anxious and dental phobic patients regularly which is a very rewarding part of my job.
Having worked in Philip Friel Advanced Dentistry since we started I treat complex periodontal problems, help patients prepare for and maintain implant work as I have been working with implants for the majority of my career, and ensure that this is followed through to ensure the best outcome possible for my patients.
I attend many courses to keep up to date with the ever changing and exciting world of dentistry.

Carly operates as PA to Philip Friel and coordinates the day to day administration of the clinic.
With a career background focused on customer relations and service,
Carly's skills and positive attitude ensure the clinical team are supported in many of the administrative fields. She oversees Philip Friel's patient scheduling and manages his diary commitments.
I have more than 10 years experience in the dental field and am part of the team responsible for the smooth running of the day to day requirements of the practice.
I have been told that I have the innate ability to organise with kindness and efficiency while offering the highest level of comfort and quality. My aim is to always try and make a patient's visit to the clinic run as pleasantly as possible. I have a great knowledge of dentistry will quite happily explain and map out treatment at the pace and times required by patients. I am available to discuss any queries or concerns you may have regarding the clinic.
In previous worklife I've worked in hospital management in Blackpool and Gloucester where I was responsible for the day-to-day patient allocation in a 500 bed unit. My spare time interests are my three children, running, keeping fit, membership of a book club and socialising.
Your first hello and welcome is likely to come from me when you call or visit the clinic.
I have five years experience working as a dental receptionist and through continued training am able to assist patients with all enquires, dental or otherwise. I'm very excited about my post in the new clinic and am looking forward to meeting all the patients.
Away from the clinic reception, I enjoy concerts, keeping fit and meeting friends for coffee. I also volunteer for the Simon Community, a charity helping people experiencing homelessness.
I look after IT operations and security in the clinic and I have amassed a great deal of experience in this field of work.
Advancements in dental technology mean that a clinic and the team rely heavily upon computers, networks and server support. This ensures the adequate day to day runing of the clinic and all the in house technology while ensuring the daily safety of our systems and their back up and security.
The clinic has a vast array of technology which is required for the smooth running of chairs, cameras, digital x rays, Cone Beam CT scanner, patient record systems, integration, entertainment etc. I have worked closely with Philip Friel to advance and develop many of the 'usual' dental software to an advanced state to suit the specification requirements of the clinic.
