Scanner open night a great success

Our Ewoo 3D scanner open evening held in our clinic for other dental professionals was a great success.

We had 14 guests and superb presentations from Paul Taylor who looks after international training for Ewoo and from our own consultant radiologist Dr Neil Heath who gave an insight into the current requirements for justification of radiation, reporting requirements and the benefits of CBCT scanning in planning implant treatments.

Lots of feedback and interaction on the night – then a further discussion over supper.
This is one of many evenings we’re planning – so we’ll keep you posted on the next batch.

Our colleagues Pamela Wood from our Glasgow dental clinic has great cause for celebration today.

She’s just heard she passed her dental nurse examinations! We’re all very pleased about her news as we know how much commitment she’s made to her studies and we’re aware of how hard she worked to achieve that goal.

We’re absolutely delighted for you Pam!

Open evening for referring dentists and other dental professionals

When planning the clinic, we decided to install the Ewoo Pax Duo Cone Beam CT Scanner. We have been using the system for some 14 months now and have noticed a growing number of referrals for these scans from colleagues who feel its use may benefit the patients under their care.

In addition, with more scans being taken we provide a facility for the reporting of these scans where appropriate – and this is carried out by our consultant colleague Mr Neil Heath.

The Ewoo system has many advantages: the variety of field of view options means that only the areas of interest need be exposed to radiation and the software planning element is superb.

Together with Ewoo and given the success of our previous open evening in June last year, we have organised a CBCT evening in the clinic.  The evening will be relatively informal, free of charge and will comprise a general introduction to CBCT scans in dentistry, followed by valuable input from Mr Neil Heath, Consultant in Dental Radiology, and Mr Paul Taylor from Ewoo. Verifiable CPD certificates will be provided for those in attendance.

The evening is planned for Thurs 2nd Feb from 630-830pm in our Glasgow dental clinic at 154 Hyndland Road, Hyndland, Glasgow, G12 9HZ. Please contact 0141 339 7579 to reserve your place .

We hope that this evening will provide an ideal opportunity for referring dentists or colleagues to gain further insight into CBCT scanning in dentistry, commonly detected anomalies and what we should be reporting. In addition, it will be a good informal networking evening with opportunity to discuss any relevant cases.

The importance of disinfection at our clinic: our commitment

Clinical cleanliness and disinfection are of paramount importance to the team here at Philip Friel Advanced Dentistry.

We will wash our hands up to 30 or 40 times – or even more – a day as part of our clinic disinfection regime.

We’re now using a three-pronged regime featuring Schulke soap, cleanser and hand lotion products.

Our commitment underlines the importance we place on our disinfection programme in the clinic.

Who’s Who feature: three of our dentists appear

Three of our team have taken part in a feature in the latest edition of the Scottish Dental Magazine.

The feature is headlined “Who’s who in Scottish Dentistry” and focused on a number of professionals which the magazine described as ‘key players’.

Dr Philip Friel, Dr Stuart McLaren and Dr Neil Heath were ‘our trio’ who participated.

Hours out of clinic: gift buying tackled!

Took a couple of hours away from the clinic yesterday to tackle the Christmas gift buying.

Did a twin city assault – buying some in Edinburgh and the rest in Glasgow.

Now just got to work out hiding places…

I’m sure there will come the day when our two boys make it their mission to hunt out Christmas pressies before Santa comes to collect them for his annual delivery!

Meantime just got to make sure my wife Stephanie doesn’t uncover her pressies.

Our friends at Dentistry Scotland magazine have sent this link for their video from recent Gleneagles awards event.

Our award-winning team features quite far on in the film and I’m ‘starring’ in the last section with a full talking role!

We are all very pleased with the results from these prestigious awards.

“Awe inspiring piece of precision engineering” – how one implant patient described her surgery

We’re always delighted to receive feedback from patients and many have written testimonials which they’re happy to share with others. We appreciate the time these Glasgow clinic patients take in writing their pieces.

Here’s a testimonial we’ve just received from a 66 year old female patient who underwent dental implant surgery at the clinic. She wrote…

“Dr Philip Friel is an outstanding practitioner, an unbridled enthusiast and optimist, and an utterly delightful person in whom one can have absolute confidence; he is well deserving of the many awards and accolades he has received, both at Scottish and national levels.

“Despite setbacks, none of which occasioned by him, during my complicated, implant treatment, he continued to treat me with infinite patience, perseverance and genuine kindness.  His approach has always been unhurried, calm and precise.

“Before the treatment commenced, I received a detailed treatment plan with a precise costing, rather than the more commonly given estimate. It was particularly reassuring to be given Dr Friel’s mobile phone number with instructions to contact him, should I experience any post-treatment problems; following each surgical procedure, I had a phone call from the practice checking on how I was feeling. Such attention to detail, does make a real difference to the overall, patient experience.

“Dr Friel’s dental implant nurse, Kasia, has been a constant support; her friendliness and empathy have been a real ‘comfort blanket,’ as I am definitely not the bravest or calmest of patients, following a lifetime of dental complications, too numerous to mention.

“The finished result is aesthetically very pleasing and an awe inspiring piece of precision ‘engineering’. It has certainly taken time and there have been difficulties along the way, however, thanks to the sheer professionalism and perseverance of Phil, I am delighted to say, mission duly accomplished.    Philip Friel Advanced Dentistry is a dynamic practice, using state of the art technology and the very latest techniques and materials, but for me, it is the genuinely warm and friendly atmosphere and the emphasis on treating people as individuals, in addition to the high quality dental care, that sets it apart from others.

“I cannot recommend Philip Friel highly enough, and sincerely thank everyone involved in my treatment.”
