Our dental implant nurse Kasia has just returned from Birmingham where she was sharing her knowledge and expertise in lectures to other dental nurses with an interest in implantology nursing.
The lectures focused on theory and on practical sessions and aims to help those attending broaden their knowledge and understanding of the key role the dental implant nurse plays in a clinical setting.
Kasia does similar courses all over the UK and her skills have been recognised by one of the major dental implants companies which has enlisted her as a dental nurse mentor and trainer.

Here’s our latest addition to the Philip Friel Advanced Dentistry line-up!
It’s our Smart Car which we’ve given a full makeover. Firstly we had it ‘whitened’ – turning its original silver colour into a dazzling white.
Then we branded it so other vehicle users and pedestrians can see the clinic message.
If you spot any of the team in it when you’re out and about be sure to give us a wave.
Our new set of wheels for clinic errands
Our new 'toothmobile'
From time to time our suppliers and contacts in the dental world will drop off samples of new products for our team to trial and for our patients to try out too.
We’ve got some samples of the new Oral-B Pro Expert toothpaste. It’s had a great reaction from our team who’ve tried it.
If you’re passing the clinic please feel free to pop in for a sample (as the saying goes – while stocks last!). The reception team will do the needful and share them out.
In the last 35 years or so dental implants have allowed dentists to do some remarkable cosmetic and restorative work with patients.
We’ve just updated the dental implants section on our website.
The section gives you lots of useful information and advice about dental implants and their benefits.
In restorative dentistry planning is so very important.
I’ve just spent the last two days with the highly respected and experienced John Wibberley of Waters Edge Ceramics – a cutting edge dental laboratory located on the Lancashire/Yorkshire border. I’ve worked closely with John and his team of technicians for several years now and I know the work they can do.
Over the past few days we’ve worked together – with the patient present – in discussing the best way forward and the way to achieve first-class results.
My wife Stephanie and I were out for a Thursday night ‘date’ and took in the Rox jewellery event in the city centre of Glasgow.
Attending the event was Scottish racing legend David Coulthard so there was quite a buzz at the party.
And yes, we did the whole ‘can we have a pic’ routine. It’s not every day you bump into one of Scotland’s greatest sporting sons.
Interesting to read about the further success of the mum who founded a company making innovative toothbrushes for babies.
She’s won another business award. with her Brush-Baby Chewable Toothbrush. Some really useful info on her site www.brushbaby.co.uk
The topic of odontophobia was raised among Twitter followers just the other day.
The word is best summed up as ‘dental anxiety’ or a fear of dentists. It’s fairly common and we have members of our team who can work with such patients to help them through the experience of a clinic visit.
In particular our Jamie Maguire (pictured below) is extremely highly experienced in working in the field of dental sedation.
There are many solutions available including dental conscious sedation – a technique whereby a sedative medication is used to relax and sedate patients who are very anxious of receiving dental treatment.
Please contact us if you or any of your family might benefit from working with our experienced team.
We’ve taken delivery of a great new piece of equipment…a high powered microscope.
The main aim in having the new microscope is to assist in endodontic treatment as it enable the dentist to have better vision when the root canal work is being undertaken.
The microscope has six levels of magnification are 2.5x, 5x, 10x, 14x, 18x, 22x. It also has a 180 degree inclinable binocular which assists the dentist in achieving greater vision of the tooth being worked on. The photo below shows Ross Henderson who has a key focus on endodontics in our clinic using the new piece of equipment.

Stephanie and I are delighted to announce the safe arrival of our second son, Hugo Patrick Friel, little brother for Arnold.
Baby Hugo was born on July 14 and weighed just over 7lbs.
Both mum and baby are now home and doing well. Arnold’s settling into his new role as big brother and eager to share his toy cars.
