One more sleep

One vision is now a reality – 4 years of planning. 8 months in the construction phase. 6 visits to the planning office. 3400 miles of transportation from Holland, Spain and Italy for most of the big pieces of furniture. 350 kilos apiece in each of the new patient treatment chairs. 25 kilometres of wiring. Melding into what I consider to be the best looking clinic in the country – with 12 of the most dedicated and enthusiastic staff members ready to perform their magic. Thanks to project leader Simon and his flexible team of workmen. Thanks to the accountant, the architect, the surveyors and any others who played their part in making this happen. Heartfelt gratitude to friends and family who have kept me buoyed up and 100% focused. Love and thanks to Steph and Arnold for just being. Sounds like an Oscar speech? It’s meant to because I believe the finished clinic that will swing into action tomorrow morning is a winner in terms of equipment, ambience and the ideal environment for looking after our patients. One more sleep….

Kasia’s new role

Our implant dental nurse Kasia Zawada travelled to Manchester for a very important meeting with implant supplier Astra Tech. She underwent a rigorous interview session and has been signed up to provide a series of Train the Trainers Nurse’s Courses. Kasia who works closely with Philip will continue to perform her role with patients as well as conducting these training sessions. Our congratulations to Kasia!

Our first full team shot…ready for opening

Here’s one of the team shots we did today. We transformed the reception into a mini studio and we had make up, courtesy of the team at ECH. The clinic had a real buzz to it with the workmen, the interior design team, delivery men, joiners, electricians, communication specialists and some surprise visitors filling the place. We also had visits from a couple of our main instrument suppliers and some of the team spent time ordering new pieces ahead of Monday’s opening. We also tried on our new scrubs – they’ll be revealed soon.

Ready for opening day...our team

We’re being framed!

Photographer Andy Fuller is coming in tomorrow to work his magic on the new clinic. His brief includes interior and exterior shots as well as photographs of all the enlarged team who are now based in the clinic. Progress has been spectacular in the last few days and we’re well on course for opening day on November 8. We’ll update photos as and when they become available to share.

Our team on the move

As we prepare to move into the new clinic on November 8 we migrated to a city location for our first week of intensive preparation work for our new home with everyone from the team. Thanks to Alan Tomkins and his staff at Urban Bar and Brasserie in St Vincent’s Place for hosting our week of team familiarisation and new clinic preparation. We had the perfect venue and our lunch breaks were very tasty indeed. All helped us keep focused to get through our agenda.

Outdoor training

The team enjoy some outdoor activities

The team headed to Ayrshire – and in particular Cowan’s Law at Moscow for some outdoor exercise and fun. We tried our hands at a spot of clay pigeon shooting. After a week of intense indoor work it was the ideal end to our first training week for the new clinic. Thanks to Jay Steel for hosting our outdoor session – the food and hospitality was great.

Best Young Dentist finalist

Philip has been named as a finalist in the Best Young Dentist category in the Dentistry Awards 2010. These prestigious awards attract entries from all over the country. The whole team is delighted with the news and excited about the prospect of the finals in December.

New team gathering

Most of our new clinic team gathered today for a team-familiarisation day. The dentists gave a presentation, our PR and marketing advisor did a presentation and we met some of our equipment suppliers. There was great energy in the room and huge positivity about our move into the new clinic on Nov 8!

The Italian job

I recently wrote an article about the technique of immediate implant placement and it seems to have caught the attention of some of my international colleagues from the dental world. The editor of Dental Tribune International, a Germany-based group which publishes dental media worldwide to an audience of more than 600,000 dentists in 91 countries contacted me. It seems that the Italian co-ordinators of the publishing group want to reproduce the article after having it professionally translated. All going well it should appear in Dental Tribute Italian Edition.

Looking good…

The exterior of the new clinic has had a big boost with the re-installation of the restored shiny black painted ironwork. Looks great. The garden’s been given a bit of a makeover too…now the signage to be completed and all the outside stuff will be complete. These buildings were built to last and it’s brilliant being able to restore the appearance of the exterior as well as the interior makeover during the project.
